Responsibilities

Account Specialist are responsible for inbound/outbound fielding, and resolving calls from patients/insurance companies/attorneys/departments regarding hospitals, clinics, and laboratory accounts. The representative must resolve questions and perform tasks related to: obtaining payment over the telephone from patients/guarantors, resolving patient balances by offering and accepting all appropriate payment arrangements, updating incomplete or missing information on accounts to insure that billing is correct, perform balance reviews, understand charges, note follow-up entries on account, respond to patient’s inquiry on why insurance did not pay, provide accurate information and facilitate resolution to customer and third party inquiries while representing the company in a professional and positive manner, facilitate and resolve any request or actions that are received from facilities.

Education

High School Graduate or equivalent, minimum; two years post high school education or degree preferred.

Qualification/Skills

Knowledge of basic accounting principles, two years of call center/medical/insurance/collections experience preferred, minimum of two years computer experience with tested data entry skills, ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Must have a basic understanding of medical terminology and medical office procedures so that patient questions are resolved.
  • Communication: effective communication through professional written and verbal skills, ability to build positive working relationships outside the immediate work group
  • Computer skills: keyboarding and 10-Key proficiency, mouse proficiency, proficient with PC applications in a Windows environment, minimum, with MS Word and Excel, Outlook, internet capabilities
  • Organizational: able to prioritize workload, able to handle expected volume of work, adapts well to change, able to quickly problem solve and escalate appropriate problems to supervisor, able to multi-task
  • Compliance: maintain accuracy of assigned work, compliance with all rules and regulations, accreditation standards and laws that apply.
  • Personal Effectiveness: develops positive relationships by making others feel their concerns and contributions are important. Relates well to all kinds of people; builds appropriate rapport; listens; builds constructive and effective relationships; uses diplomacy and tact; truly values people
