The Commons, located in Minneapolis, is the headquarters of Allina Health, a not-for-profit health care organization serving patients and communities. Approximately 1,600 corporate and administrative service employees work at offices within Midtown Exchange, the site of the historic Sears retail complex at Chicago Avenue and E. Lake Street.   • As a Database Developer, you will provide analysis, design, programing, testing, implementation, system review, follow–up and closure to projects as well as on-going support
  • Prepare data model and technical design specifications pertinent to applications/functions being developed and develop applications/functions consistent with design specifications and data models
  • Support data management strategies, including data integration, partitioning, archiving and replication
  • Ability to troubleshoot any and all situations and relationships
  • Work with venders on hardware, software and networking requirements to support projects and systems for ARS and install vender created software application packages or tools. Correct application/tool errors including software patches and fixes from venders
  • Plan and coordinate activities such as installation and upgrading of hardware and software programming and system design and development
  • Develop business reporting and provide consultative support for application reporting/report writing tools. Extract and process requested data from other sources, qualifying the integrity of the data and formatting for deliver per customer specifications
  • Evaluate, review and test applications and functions and recommend development of applications/functions and process to improve productivity and quality
  • Provide detailed project/task estimates and assist business customers with prioritization and prepare and maintain project plans as well as related project management documentation
  • Build and manage systems, including telecom systems, support and monitoring of hardware, operating system, database and application software and plan and coordinated activities such as installation and upgrading of hardware and software
  • Provide on-call support for purposes of diagnosis and correction of developed applications and systems including vender systems, if needed
  • Support data management strategies and IT infrastructure activities such as; database performance tuning for optimal performance, database backup/recovery, data integration, partitioning, archiving and replication
  • Thorough knowledge of computer operating systems, equipment, terminology, network systems administration, installation/maintenance/troubleshooting practices and techniques
  • Evaluate reengineering opportunities by seeking out root cause and elimination of waste in business processes and IS practices
  • Develop and utilize data quality techniques to assure data quality and consistency and confer with end-users to determine the type of data to be processed and the desired outcome
  • Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures and performs in accordance with the principles, responsibilities and applicable regulatory requirements and external laws regulating ARS business units
  • Develops and coordinates the creation of information databases to promote the sharing of information with users inside as well as outside customers
  • Plan, design, schedule, write and debug database stored procedures and complex queries to extract, calculate and manipulate information
  • Proficient in both programming and systems analysis in order to design and improve computer applications

Education

BS/BA degree preferred in computer science or related business area

Qualification/Skills

  • 3-4 years experience working as a systems analyst or related job on technical application systems in one or more aspects of technical application systems or areas of the business. Programmer analyst experience
  • Involves typical and recurring assignments under limited supervision
  • Under limited supervision, formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to develop or modify moderately complex information systems
  • Analyzes and evaluates existing or proposed systems to process data
  • Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results
  • Prepares detailed technical specifications from which programs will be written
  • Demonstrated expertise of general software development methods, design, and programming techniques
  • Designs, codes, tests, debugs, documents and maintains programs with general supervision from more senior systems analysts/programmers
  • Creates or updates supporting systems documentation and implements the new system (or current system changes) into production for ongoing operation
  • Investigates and identifies systems changes or new applications required
  • Analyzes and corrects reported production systems performance problems and documents any changes made.
  • Competent to work on most phases of applications systems analysis and programming activities, but requires instruction and guidance in other phases
  • Develops collaborative partnerships across Allina IS department and ARS business units to achieve results and improve performance
  • Takes initiative to become more knowledgeable about Allina’s business and healthcare industry trends
  • Challenges others’ thinking to create effective and efficient work processes
