Buffalo Hospital, located on the western edge of the Twin Cities metro area in Buffalo, Minn., offers high quality, personal care in private rooms and provides many specialty services, including the Birth Center, Cardiac Center, Emergency Services, Sleep Center, Phillips Eye Institute, Courage Kenny Rehabilitation InstituteTM and Virginia Piper Cancer Institute.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic direct and indirect patient care as delegated and directed by the professional staff.
  • Responsible for equipment set up and maintenance, and the performance of phlebotomy, EKG, wound preparation, blood glucose monitoring, CPR, visual acuity exam, applying splints, obtaining specimens, DME fitting/teaching and other patient care tasks.
  • Under the direct oversight of a RN, may apply wound dressings and oxygen, and assist with certain procedures such as irrigations, restraint application, pressure dressing, transferring fall risk patients, and placement and removal of backboard/c-collar.
  • Plans and organizes for surgical procedure needs.

Education

  • High School Graduate or GE
  • AHA BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification
  • Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician – Basic, or First Responder or Paramedic
  • Minnesota Emergency Medical Service Regulatory Board (EMSRB) or Minnesota Department of Health (MDH)

Qualification/Skills

  • Experience as an Emergency Medical Technician, First Responder or Paramedic in hospital emergency department or equivalent experience preferred.
  • The ability to establish effective relationships with health care team members
  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks.
  • Demonstrated self-directness
  • Strong communication/telephone skills.
  • Computer and clerical skills
  • Customer service skills

Work Schedule

Work Schedule – Additional Position Details:
When work is available, casual employees are required to work two shifts per month. One of the required shifts must be: (a) a weekend shift or (b) an evening, night or variable start time shift, if the casual employee works in a department that has such shifts. Casual employees are not obligated to report to duty each time they are requested to work.
SEIU union position.
