Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibility will involve neuropsychological assessment of adult outpatient populations (inpatient may be available if the provider prefers this).
  • The neuropsychologist has close access to a psychotherapist with rehabilitation specialization in addition to Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and an orthopedist who primarily works with mild traumatic brain injury/concussion.
  • The Neuropsychologist will also be involved with the Concussion Team, which includes OT, PT, and Orthopedics.
  • Primary referral sources include Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Orthopedics, Primary Care/Family Medicine, Geriatrics, and Psychiatry.
    • Most common patient referrals include memory disorders including a variety of neurodegenerative diseases, movement disorders, traumatic brain injury (primarily mild to moderate), and cardiovascular/stroke patients. Other memory disorder related patient referrals include normal aging versus a memory disorder or memory disorder versus pseudodementia.
    • The second most common patient referral are for post-concussion syndrome with a recent or remote history of mild traumatic brain injury/concussion. The referral sources for post-concussion syndrome with a recent or remote history of mild traumatic brain injury/concussion are looking for assistance with diagnostic clarity and whether these patients require further treatment recommendations/interventions that would be beneficial in their recovery.
The prior two patient types make up well over 50% of the patients seen in this clinic.
  • The third most common patient referrals are psychiatric in nature and to assist in determining cognitive impact of affective symptoms and/or to assist with treatment recommendations.
  • Other patient referral questions, but are less common at this clinic (but could be integrated if the provider preferred) include Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder evaluations, learning disorder evaluations, and diagnostic clarity and treatment recommendations for neurodevelopmental disorders versus affective syndromes (e.g., determine if there is a history of Autism Spectrum Disorder versus anxiety/depression).

Education

  • Doctoral degree in psychology or closely related field from an accredited university
  • Must complete board certification (ABPP) within 5 years of employment

Qualification/Skills

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years experience treating patients in a clinical setting (which may include internship and postdoctoral training)

Skills

  • Ability to work closely with healthcare team including physicians, therapists, nurses and social workers
  • Develop treatment plan for short, episodic care

Licensure/Certification

  • State required
