Allina Health Laboratory provides a full menu of essential and specialized laboratory services to customers in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. We provide reference laboratory services to four major metropolitan hospitals, 13 regional hospitals, including Abbott Northwestern – WestHealth (Plymouth), 59+ Allina Health clinics, 40+ hospital-based clinics and outpatient surgery centers. As a local, accessible resource, we provide clinical and anatomic pathology services that support customers diagnostic needs.

 

Responsibilities

  • Collect and obtain satisfactory specimen samples
  • Correct processing of specimens in a timely manner
  • Prepare and maintain supplies to efficiently collect specimens
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education

  • High School diploma
  • Specific training in phlebotomy, including internship

Qualification/Skills

Experience

  • Minimum of one year of phlebotomy experience preferred

Skills

  • Ability to:
  • Utilize communication and customer service skills in order to positively impact the experience of care for our patients, external customers and internal service partners
  • Collect routine specimens using knowledge of laboratory techniques
  • Label all specimens accurately
  • Communicate with internal and external customers using knowledge of medical terminology
  • Read and understand oral and written instructions and to follow established written protocols and procedures
  • Work independently and function effectively in a team setting
  • Bend, stoop and stand frequently
  • Demonstrate computer skills to navigate within an EMS and laboratory information system

Licensure/Certification

  • Phlebotomy certification; or
  • Medical Assistant who becomes certified within 6 months of hire; or
  • Phlebotomy experience with 3 or more years of service; and
  • BLS certification within 6 months of hire

Work Schedule

This position includes the rotation of start times anywhere from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with end times of 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. respectively, and several shifts in between. Primary role with be as a phlebotomist, with the potential to train into lab reception and/or specimen processing.

This lab performs high complexity testing in a busy environment

The city of Coon Rapids is a fast growing community on the Mississippi River just 20 minutes north of Minneapolis-St. Paul, and the metropolitan area gateway to the northern part of the state. Coon Rapids offers excellent access to highways, dynamic community shopping centers with major retail anchors, and a wide variety of recreational activities including neighborhood and regional parks, a municipal golf course, indoor ice arenas, hiking and biking trails and swimming pools.
