Located just 50 miles south of Minneapolis/St. Paul, District One Hospital provides a broad range of health care services to Faribault and the surrounding communities. District One Hospital offers a full-range of inpatient and outpatient services: Cancer Center-affiliated with the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute, cardiac rehabilitation, diagnostic imaging, emergency services, hospice, laboratory services, pharmacy, pulmonary rehabilitation, respiratory care, Sleep Center, speech therapy, Surgery Center and women’s health. The campus also includes Allina Health Faribault Clinic, Mayo Clinic Health System-Faribault, Orthopaedic & Fracture Clinic and Rehab One.

The Director of Patient Care Services is responsible for the professional nursing practice within Allina Health Faribault Hospital and will have oversight for leading all of the nursing at the hospital and manage all aspects of patient care services by leading measurable improvements in quality, patient satisfaction and cost of care. Building strong partnerships with medical staff and key contributors, this individual will drive new and innovative practices that contributes to the overall satisfaction rates for Allina Health Faribault Hospital.

Accountabilities:
  • A learning environment is present as demonstrated by: participative decision-making structures where decisions are made as close to the work as possible; key stakeholder group involvement in decisions that impact them; communication that is open, honest and pervasive.
  • Patient care systems are in place that support a multi-disciplinary, cross-boundary approach to optimal patient care outcomes.
  • Patient care system evaluation, development and innovation are demonstrated through effective patient care delivery and management systems that are integrated and linked across the patient care continuum.
  • Sufficient numbers of appropriately qualified nursing staff are provided in collaboration with other hospital leaders.
  • Integration of theory and research based practice enhances patient care outcomes and advances nursing practice.
  • Professional practice vision and structure is developed and implemented to enhance patient care practice throughout the organization (nursing and other clinical disciplines).
  • Clinical and patient care system expertise is integrated into decision-making at the Senior Leadership level.
  • Compliance with all relevant legal requirements of licensure, accreditation and standard setting agencies is met and maintained.
  • All nursing policies, procedures and standards are defined and documented by leadership teams and accountability model councils. Each element is approved by the Nursing Executive, or designee, before implementation.
  • The hospital’s plan for the provision of patient care is demonstrated in day-to-day operations.
  • Successful changes in clinical practice and service integration support managed care initiatives and result in positive customer outcomes.
  • Intensive service improvement planning, execution and outcomes are demonstrated for patient care.
  • Rapid cycle improvement efforts are in place that focus on results in clinical, process, and customer experience.
  • Quality planning implementation includes partnering with medical staff, physicians, managers, and employees to achieve goals.
  • Strategic planning is future-oriented and based on environmental assessment, business opportunities and desired outcomes.
  • Effective program leadership is demonstrated by measurable outcomes, achievement of business plan goals, cost/case, optimal volume and market share.
  • New programs are developed and existing programs and services are enhanced.
  • Provide patient care leadership for the Allina Patient Care Council and other identified system-wide, clinical and organization programs.
  • Labor management partnerships are developed with demonstrated positive working relationships and negotiation outcomes.
  • Intensive leadership development of subordinates is demonstrated.
  • Linkages for patient care and nursing practice are represented and promoted internally and externally.
  • Leadership in selected community health improvement initiatives.
  • Partners with HR to ensure appropriate staff resources exist; effective recruitment and retention strategies are in place; and staff competency is demonstrated to meet patient care needs

Education

  • Master’s degree in related field, such as an MBA, MHA, or MSN. This position is contingent upon completion of a relevant Master’s degree, or enrollment and demonstrated progress toward a relevant Master’s degree, within one year of hire date.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Qualification/Skills

  • Experience in leading Patient Care teams in order to drive successful optimal patient care outcomes.
  • Demonstrated leadership in product line strategic and business plan development and implementation supports adaptability in the marketplace and meets the community’s changing needs.
  • Experienced in Nursing standards for patient care, standards of nursing practice, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize patient care evaluation systems.
  • Ability to manage to financial targets and budgets.
  • Effective communication and commitment to partnerships with leaders, physicians, managers, employees, labor partners, and key stakeholder groups result in strong relationships, shared interests and common goals.
  • Manage patient care delivery by driving quality improvement and efficiencies resulting in elevating patient experiences.
