P1: Interns in their first year will work in the central pharmacy learning basic dispensing functions.
  • Prepare, check and dispense medications and supplies
  • Compound extemporaneous products including packaging of medications in unit dose or unit of use packaging
  • Deliver medications and supplies to patient care areas
  • Perform monthly station checks, medication room out-date checks and organization
  • Check and restock nursing unit crash carts
  • Answer and/or appropriately triage incoming phone calls to various areas of the pharmacy department or pharmacists using proper phone etiquette
  • Assist in inventory control
P2/P3/P4: Interns will train with pharmacist staff to perform medication history review from patients under supervision of pharmacists in the emergency department and inpatient areas, in addition to continued opportunities with dispensing functions.
All interns: We encourage participation in quality improvement projects and presentations to pharmacy staff that contribute to the pharmacy department. All interns have the opportunity to shadow in various areas of the hospital at each campus (Mercy and Unity Campus).

Education

  • Enrolled in an accredited School of Pharmacy working toward a Pharm.D. in Pharmacy degree

Qualification/Skills

Experience

  • Previous pharmacy experience preferred but no previous pharmacy experience required.

Licensure/Certifications

  • Pharmacy Intern Certification/Registration within 1 Year required.

Work Schedule

P1 year: 8 hour shifts (Saturday & Sunday) every other weekend, day or evening shifts
P2/P3: One weekday evening (5-10pm) and every 3rd weekend (Saturday & Sunday) day or evening 8 hour shifts
P4: Minimum of 16 hours per month.
Holidays: Interns will be included in a holiday rotation. Interns typically work 2 holidays per year.
