Regina Hospital, located in Hastings, Minn., provides health care services including primary care, internal medicine, general surgery, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, emergency medicine, inpatient geriatric mental health, urology and occupational medicine. The Hastings campus also includes senior living facilities, two Allina Health clinics and a surgery center.

  • Answers call lights and assists with patient care activities under the direction of a registered nurse.
  • At the direction of an RN, obtains vital signs, finger stick glucose, weighs patients, assists with toileting, collects urine samples and other lab specimens within their scope of practice.
  • Assists with transferring patients from wheelchair to stretcher. .
  • Assists with placement of slings, crutches, knee immobilizers, and air casts.
  • Assists with lab draws and IV starts and discontinuation of IVs.
  • Provides 1:1 observations
  • Rounding on patients to make sure all needs are being met.
  • Transfer unmonitored patient to different floors.
  • Provides care and assistance to patients and families in a courteous and respectful manner.
  • Quickly and accurately completes Patient Care Tech responsibilities for Level 1 patients.
  • Helps promote patient safety, comfort and privacy.
  • Relays information/comments from a patient or family member to the RN in a timely manner.
  • Handles telephone calls from individuals seeking information or advice according to department guidelines. Does not exceed boundaries or scope of the position.
  • Follows Regina telephone etiquette. Screens and routes call appropriately. Any telephone call related to a patient is given to the RN or discussed with the RN prior to ending the call.
  • Asks for clarification and doesn’t proceed if uncertain about verbal or written instructions.
  • Pages MD and ancillary staff as directed and according to Pager Protocol.
  • Calls for helicopter under direction of RN or MD
  • Monitors ambulance pager. Keeps nurses informed.
  • Maintains organization at the desk.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean environment; assists with clean up after patient leaves, cleaning rooms, emptying trash cans and washing equipment.
  • Knows where the Environment of Care/Safety manual is as well as MSDS.
  • Proficient at all Excellian functions applicable to Patient Care Tech: examples include navigation through electronic record, locating various parts of the chart (labs, notes, etc), track board, discharging patients.
  • Enters charges into Excellian.
  • Understands and follows “down time” procedures when Excellian is down.
  • Monitors activities on security camera monitor.
  • Takes initiative in identification of departmental needs and supplies. Orders supplies as needed: (example: linen, clerical and nutritional supplies.
  • Stocks carts and cupboards, and rooms.
  • Follows HIPPA regulations which protect patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Enters an electronic patient record only when has a business reason to do so.
  • Observes patient vulnerability and reports concerns to the RN
  • Practices all patient experience principles embraced by Allina Health in all interactions to provide an excellent experience for patients and their families.

  • 3. Is courteous and respectful in all communications.
  • Actively participates in prevention of accidents and injuries for patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Aware of department specific policies/procedures that relate to compliance issues.
  • Completes annual facility wide compliance training and education; including job-specific competencies.
  • Follows all Allina Health and business unit policies including but not limited to Code of Conduct, Respectful Workplace, HIPPA, etc.
  • Knows and follows all safety policies.


High School Graduate or GED


  • Certified Nursing Assistant
  • Or Emergency Medical Technician Certification
  • Or Health Unit Coordinator Certification
  • Or LPN experience
  • Or related equivalent healthcare experience
  • BLS (May obtain after hire)
  • Ability to work under the direct supervision of an RN; effective communication skills and organizational skills; ability to work independently and prioritize tasks; ability to work cooperatively with patients, families and all members of the health care team; demonstrates the characteristics of listening, respect; compassion. Ability to work under stressful situations. Ability to assimilate a number of pieces of information and react/respond in the appropriate manner.

Work Schedule

  • Casual position
  • pick up to work 4 shifts per 6 week posted schedule
  • assigned shift hours: 5:00pm - 1:30am
  • SEIU L113 contract
  • Assigned Holidays are 1 Holiday per year.

A scenic rivertown steeped in tradition, Hastings features the rugged and colorful scenery of the Mississippi, St. Croix, and Vermillion Rivers, many historic buildings, a mix of shopping facilities, restaurants, and industry & community festivities. The city's charming downtown is an interesting collection of restaurants, shops, and third-generation stores. Within the city limits are 8 city parks, 14 neighborhood parks, and boat access ramps. Two ski slopes and six golf courses are nearby. The neighborhoods feature a blend of large, quaint, older homes complemented by newer housing that lends a suburban influence.
