The Commons, located in Minneapolis, is the headquarters of Allina Health, a not-for-profit health care organization serving patients and communities. Approximately 1,600 corporate and administrative service employees work at offices within Midtown Exchange, the site of the historic Sears retail complex at Chicago Avenue and E. Lake Street. This community landmark, adjacent to the campus of Abbott Northwestern Hospital, part of Allina Health, is the second largest building in Minnesota and includes offices, an internationally themed public market and residential units.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the department including coordination, prioritization, personnel supervision and issues resolution of coding
  • Manage the operational workflow and process related to coding with outstanding results in terms of quality and quantity
  • Work closely with the manager and director of Coding, hospital and clinic administration, health care providers, finance leaders and many more internal and external customers to ensure quality data
  • Supervise the hospital and clinic coding for the purpose of providing accurate diagnostic and procedural coded data for statistical, financial, clinical and quality improvement purposes
  • Promote effective use of data for quality assessment and improvement of customer services and clinical outcomes
  • Coordinate and provide education on coding and billing processes to physicians, providers, coders and management
  • Participate in monitoring governmental compliance programs for the Allina clinics and hospitals
  • Supervise staff
  • Manage department budget and monitor productivity and volumes
  • Monitor physician profiles, identifying trends, and areas for improvement (when applicable)

Education

  • BS or BA in health related field preferred
  • Must have formal ICD-10 training education and provide proof of classroom and/or online completion

Qualification/Skills

Experience/Skills

  • Desire 1-2 years previous supervisory experience and/or previous position with progressive responsibilities
  • 3 years clinic/hospital based health care experience preferred
  • Expertise in governmental compliance rules and regulations required. Thorough knowledge of health care billing operations and requirements of payers
  • Proven expertise in CPT and ICD-10 coding and interpretation of third party payer guidelines equired
  • Experience working with clinical databases desired
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral skills, including public speaking. Skills in building relationships, influencing and negotiating
  • Experience in Window-based PC skills, Microsoft Office, and automated computer systems
  • Ability to organize/prioritize work, ability to draw from and utilize numerous data sources, detailed oriented, ability to multi-task, ability to lead teams, and excellent follow through skills
  • Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, resourcefulness, self-motivated, detailed oriented, ability to plan for future, and continuous quality improvement/process improvement minded

Certification

  • RHIA or RHIT certification required for hospital coding
  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS or CPC certification required for clinic coding

Work Schedule

  • 40 hours per week
  • Monday through Friday - day shift
  • No weekends
  • Benefit Eligible
  • Non-contract
