  • Utilizes critical thinking skills by providing a process for assessment of individuals and their families at risk for hereditary cancers

  • Provides education for individuals and families related to cancer risk and options available for screening and prevention

  • Supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the system hospital, program, and department and through own behavior, leads and motivates others to do so

  • Participates in growth and self-development activities to enhance the role

  • Promotes cohesiveness and peer support among staff and program colleagues

  • Utilizes assessment process to provide safe, effective, quality patient care

  • Develops an individualized education plan to achieve identified learning needs

  • Advocates for patient/family

  • Demonstrates a customer service approach in interactions with others

  • Participates in quality improvement activities to evaluate and improve patient care

  • Utilizes resources effectively and efficiently

  • Provides leadership in program development, program marketing, and education


  • Evidence of graduation from an education program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC) or its predecessor
  • A valid and current certification issued by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics as a certified genetic counselor,



  • Experience in cancer genetics counseling preferred
  • Strong knowledge base in genetics counseling
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • The ability to establish effective relationships with health care team members
  • Skillful in teaching others
  • A valid and current certification issued by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics as a certified genetic counselor
  • License to practice as a Genetic Counselor in the state of Minnesota

Work Schedule

  • 40 hours a week
  • Day shifts (Monday - Friday)
  • No weekends currently
  • Non-contract
  • Benefit eligible

*** Position to include Minneapolis metro area Allina Hospital(s) and teleheath
