Allina Health Laboratory provides a full menu of essential and specialized laboratory services to customers in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. We provide reference laboratory services to four major metropolitan hospitals, 13 regional hospitals, including Abbott Northwestern – WestHealth (Plymouth), 59+ Allina Health clinics, 40+ hospital-based clinics and outpatient surgery centers. As a local, accessible resource, we provide clinical and anatomic pathology services that support customers diagnostic needs.

 

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for day-to-day operations of assigned clinic laboratories.
  • Adjusts daily staffing schedules to meet financial and business targets.
  • Monitors and helps implement process & technical improvements to meet or enhance quality and service targets.
  • Provides on-site technical expertise in collaboration with Technical Specialist.
  • Takes accountability for maintaining and resolving customer relations.
  • Fosters and environment of continuous improvement, identifying and recommending changes and improvements to management.
  • Escalates issues appropriately when the situation or questions cannot be solved internally.
  • May serve on interdisciplinary committees to plan and implement Allina Health initiatives.
  • Develops and maintains staffing plans for assigned clinic laboratories.
  • Participates in employee hiring, performance development and performance management, conducting timely performance appraisals for direct reports.
  • Provides work direction to staff.
  • Implements employee engagement strategies to retain and demonstrate commitment and recognition to staff.
  • Participates in budget development.
  • Monitors financial, volume, and productivity data to meet targets.
  • Helps implement cost reduction opportunities when identified
  • Ensures new employees receive appropriate orientation/training; ensures ongoing employee training and competency assessments are successfully completed.
  • Evaluates competency of all testing personnel and assures that the staff maintain their competency to perform test procedures and report test results promptly, accurately and proficiently.
  • Regularly reviews all quality control, quality assurance, and proficiency testing records.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal regulations including CAP, OSHA, COLA, CLIA, and HIPAA.
  • Develops and manages relationships with assigned clinic leadership and staff to ensure optimal service delivery.
  • Develops and maintains laboratory policies, procedures, forms and other documents in collaboration with key laboratory stakeholders.
  • Attends and participates in AHL leadership meetings
  • Attends clinic leadership meetings as needed

Education

  • B.S. in Medical Technology/Clinical Lab Science earned within the United States

    OR

    *U.S. based related degree in chemical, physical or biological science, with MLS certification by recognized agency.

    * For diplomas earned outside of the United States a record of diploma/transcript equivalency evaluation by a foreign credentialing agency must be provided at time of hire.

Qualification/Skills

Minimum of 2 years of work experience performing non-waived testing and tests of moderate and high complexity in all specialties and subspecialties of service.

Ability to:

  • Demonstrate superb communication skills necessary to establish and maintain effective communication with staff, management and providers.
  • Utilize customer service skills to positively impact patient experience.
  • Provide oral and written instructions and establish written policies and procedures.
  • Work independently, problem solve and function effectively in a team setting.

Prioritize and organize work of teams

2 years of progressive leadership experience preferred

Work Schedule

South Central Hub #9 site responsibilities

Shift start times range from 6:30am to 8pm Monday through Friday
Occasional Saturday and/or Sunday
