Responsibilities

  • Under direction, performs a wide range of diagnostic tests for visual acuity and for use by ophthalmologists in the diagnosis and care of diseases of the eyes. Performs ordered ophthalmic procedures in accordance with PEI/department policies and procedures. In addition to COT standard procedures. Tech must perform the following procedures.
  • A-Scan
  • B-Scan
  • OCT
  • Specular Microscopy
  • Visual Fields
  • Keratometry Readings
  • Refractions
  • PAM’s
  • Visual Acuity
  • Pentacams
  • Identifies deviations from normal based on data/test results and communicates those findings to the physician.
  • Reviews patient test results, as well as Wavescan measurements and Vario calculations with the physician.
  • Assists physicians with scheduled refractive and cataract procedures.

Education

  • Successful completion of accredited Ophthalmic Technician program and certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) level (governed by JCAHPO).

  • Certificate on specific lasers/keratomes used at the institute. If not certified, must be willing to obtain certification.

Qualification/Skills

  • Three or more years of experience in the field of diagnostic testing/refractive surgery preferred

Work Schedule

  • 32 hours per week (0.8 FTE)
  • Day/Evening shifts Monday-Thursday
  • Currently no call, but possibly call attached in the future
  • Benefit eligible
