  • Places patients under continuous visual monitoring.
  • Ensures that patient information is entered and sent into system correctly
  • Introduces self to patients over Continuous Visual Monitoring system
  • Monitors and redirects up to twelve patients at a time
  • Maintains eyes and concentration on screen at all times
  • Calls the bedside staff if there is an issue
  • Makes observations/collects and reports data
  • Never leaves monitor station unattended
  • Provides patient with explanations as necessary, but does not counsel or provide opinions
  • Demonstrates behaviors in line with service excellence
  • Seeks help or advice as soon as possible when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others.
  • Calls requesting unit to determine needs
  • Demonstrates familiarity and skill with the equipment. Shows understanding of the equipment and use
  • Receives Handoff from previous monitor room staff to include # being monitored, behaviors they have learned, interventions that are effective and incidents that happened
  • Demonstrates warmth, social courtesies, concern, and respect to patients and families, and unit staff
  • Attends to patient needs promptly, giving full attention when providing care
  • Verbally redirects patient over communication device
  • Notifies RN on unit if cart or system is not working correctly, including if viewing of patient is lost.
  • Uses paging system to communicate with all charge nurses and appropriate leaders when system is down.
  • Effectively runs scheduled and unscheduled downtime procedures
  • Records and checks all required information on requests, requisitions and/or computer entry to other departments
  • Processes and facilitates the coordination of orders in proper sequence including multi-step orders
  • Demonstrates proficiency in all hospital computer information systems as used by the unit
  • Completes computer and/or hardware related issue prevention and maintenance tasks including follow-up to ensure resolution to outstanding issues
  • Maintains unit communication system/paper patient records for easy access and retrieval of informational reports
  • Discusses and provides documentation of performance review with Manager or Supervisor
  • Identifies developmental goals and plan
  • Completes all mandatory education requirements: ERTK, Fire Safety, Emergency Codes, Environmental Management and Hazardous Wastes, and Other education that becomes available during the year
  • Attends staff meetings and educational meetings and shift safety huddles
    Incorporates changes in unit practice into daily workflow
  • Contributes to Performance Improvement and helps implement those initiatives
  • Potential patient care problems are communicated to the proper care team member
  • Follows established procedures to facilitate patient placement
  • Assists with patient flow operations as delegated by charge nurse
  • Facilitates patient discharge process as needed
  • Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard
  • Demonstrates safe work practices and attitudes
  • Follows safety rules, works to prevent unsafe conditions and behaviors
  • Understands, executes, and explains the complete Remote Observation Policy
  • Communicates and follows staffing procedures for the department


• 1 – 2 years college/vocational education – or 2 quarters of clinical experience in a nursing program – or Medical Assistant Certification or a graduate of an approved Allina Health program

• Preferred: At least 2 years post-secondary


  • One – two years of patient care experience in an acute care setting – or - completion of at least one nursing clinical rotations – or - telehealth experience with patient interaction
  • Two years demonstrated computer experience within the past 3 years – Typing proficiency in Word and email.
  • Excellent communication, ability to speak calmly and clearly.
  • English proficiency
  • Demonstrated ability to respond quickly and accurately to various situations.
  • Ability to think and assess quickly and effectively
  • Electronic medical record experience preferred
  • Medical terminology preferred

Work Schedule

  • 20 hours per week
  • Nights (2300-0730)
  • No block scheduling
  • Every other weekend
  • L113 Contract
  • Benefit eligible
