Allina Health Laboratory provides a full menu of essential and specialized laboratory services to customers in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. We provide reference laboratory services to four major metropolitan hospitals, 13 regional hospitals, including Abbott Northwestern – WestHealth (Plymouth), 59+ Allina Health clinics, 40+ hospital-based clinics and outpatient surgery centers. As a local, accessible resource, we provide clinical and anatomic pathology services that support customers diagnostic needs.

 

Responsibilities

  • Directs & develops departmental technical procedures and material resource in Flow Cytometry
  • Achieves standardization, proficiency, accuracy, and economy in test result production
  • Measured by TAT reports, costs (budget expectations), department and pathology review and QA, QC and proficiency reports
  • Researchesand develops applications of new technologies
  • Provides currently acceptable & cost methods in technical practices
  • Measured by customer feedback, pathologist feedback, department reviews, costs (budget expectations)
  • Ensures compliance of requirements in technical component and practices mandated by accrediting and regulatory agencies
  • Provides high quality test results and safe working environment
  • Measured by regulatory accreditation and QA, QC, proficiency reports, and demonstrated staff competency
  • Utilize TQI principles to effectively communicate with pathologists, physicians, hospital staff, laboratory staff, LIS group, outreach customers, and sales representatives
  • Responds to questions and problems and exchanges relevant information
  • Measured by physician and customer feedback, in-lab communication systems, and knowledge of changing technology

Education

  • Four-year degree related to Health Sciences or HEW Equivalency exam (pre-1988) with seven years experience in specialty area

Qualification/Skills

Experience

  • Five years experience in specialty area (Flow Cytometry/Hematology)

Skills

  • Proven delegation, prioritization and communication skills
  • Commitment to promoting consolidation of laboratories and the perception of a seamless laboratory system

Licensure/Certifications

  • CLS Certification required by a recognized agency such as ASCP (Board of Registry) or NCA
  • Staff who received certification after January 1, 2004 is required to renew their certification every three years

Work Schedule

M-F Days. Occasional weekend coverage possible, to be determined.
Technical Specialist will also perform clinical work in the department approximate 50% of the time.
