New Ulm Medical Center, located in south central Minnesota, seeks to be a national model for rural health. Responsibilities

  • Answer phone calls, take accurate messages, refer calls to appropriate staff, and provide requested information.
  • Warmly greet visitors and respond to questions.
  • Determine the urgency of patient needs and arrange for appropriate assistance if needed.
  • Assist in transporting patients by wheelchair when necessary.
  • Access registration Patient Work queue to resolve issues prior to patient arrival.
  • Register new patients during appointment scheduling
  • Schedule patient appointments per provider guidelines timely and accurately.
  • Verify insurance benefits, co-pays, provide receipts
  • Accurately document on patient account when follow up is needed
  • Obtains proper authorizations.
  • Scans authorizations into patient account.
  • Coordinate translation services when necessary.
  • Advocate for patient by encouraging their families to actively participate in their care.
  • Resolve patient billing and reimbursement problems in cooperation with billing staff.

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required

Qualification/Skills

Previous healthcare office experience preferred.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with patients, families and all members of the health care team.
  • Effective communication skills and organizational skills.
  • Computer skills including proficient keyboard skills, use of email and internet access.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrates the characteristics of listening, respect and compassion.
  • Ability to follow HIPPA regulations which protect patient confidentiality and privacy.

Work Schedule

  • Days between 6:45AM-5:30PM, alternating weekends up to four per year and evening coverage 10:30AM-7:00PM eight weeks per year.
