Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill with all equipment used in the care of the respiratory patient
  • Provides acute and long-term care to patients suffering from cardiopulmonary respiratory disorders
  • Educates patients and staff regarding chronic and acute pulmonary disorders, provide consultative services to area hospitals/agencies and provide technical and educational support to nurses regarding respiratory procedures in clinic and hospital
  • Assists in C-sections in support of infant
  • Document patient education, updates to the Care Plan, flowsheet information, MAR, and other pertinent information completed in Excellian (EMR)
  • Responds to emergency situation/codes immediately and performs in a calm and professional manner
  • Demonstrates a conscientious approach in administration of prescribed therapeutics
  • Responds to emergency situation/codes immediately and performs in a calm and professional manner
  • Able to assess change in patient's condition and respond appropriately
  • Collaborates with nursing staff in providing inservices related to respiratory care
  • Takes direction from physician regarding treatment parameters
  • Communicates effectively with family, physicians, patients, and staff

Education

  • Graduate of an AMA approved school for Respiratory Therapy and/or is a Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRTT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Qualification/Skills

Experience

  • Prefer 2 years of hospital RT experience but will consider a new graduate with a strong clinical experience.

Skills

  • Excellent communicator with good interpersonal skills; strong computer, organization, assessment and problem solving skills needed
  • Competent in use of mechanical ventilators, BiPAP and CPAP, oximetry, overnight oximetry, nebulization therapy, high flow nasal cannula, routine prescribed treatments (incentive spirometry, oxygen delivery, CPT), bedside spirometry, pulmonary function testing, and pulmonary rehab

Licensure/Certification

  • State Licensure through the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice
  • ACLS, BLS, and NRP

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday day shift in hospital and clinic settings.

Weekday and weekend call coverage.
