Owatonna Hospital, located south of the Twin Cities, offers inpatient and outpatient orthopedic, general, urology, plastic, ENT and ophthalmologic surgical services; inpatient mental health; birthing center; emergency medicine; and rehabilitation services through Courage Kenny Rehabilitation InstituteTM. With 331 employees, 163 physicians and 43 staffed beds, Owatonna Hospital serves approximately 42,000 inpatients and outpatients annually. The hospital is connected to Mayo Clinic Health System Owatonna and Koda Living Community, an 80-bed long- and short-term care facility.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Nursing Assistant provides and supports direct patient care as guided by their training and in accordance with policy and our mission, vision and values.
  • Makes observations/collects health status data as assigned and/or delegated by the RN.
  • Reports and documents findings according to established guidelines.
  • Performs personal care/interventions as assigned and/or delegated by the RN according to policy, procedure, unit routine and patient need.
  • May transport medications (excluding controlled substances) on hospital campus.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire. Must be certified by the American Heart Association.

Qualification/Skills

  • One year of Nursing Assistant experience preferred. Applicants with less than one year of Nursing Assistant experience must meet the following:
    • Registered on State Department of Health Nursing Assistant Registry; and/or
    • Completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotations within an accredited nursing program
  • In addition, candidates should be self-motivated and able to work in a team setting, as well as possess strong communication, problem solving, customer service and critical thinking skills.

Work Schedule

  • 12 hour rotating day/evening or evening/night shifts
  • Every 3rd weekend rotation
  • 30 hours/week
  • Benefit eligible
  • L113 contract
