River Falls Area Hospital (RFAH) is located in western Wisconsin, just 30 minutes east of St. Paul, Minn., and is part of a shared medical campus that provides easy access to hospital services, an Allina Health primary care clinic, specialty clinics, a long-term care facility and a wellness and fitness center. With 270 employees, more than 174 affiliated physicians and 25 staffed beds, RFAH provides a full range of inpatient, outpatient and emergency services, as well as surgical, cardiovascular, cancer treatment and rehabilitation services to approximately 28,000 patients each year. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Nutrition Manager with duties as directed
  • Assist the Nutrition Manager with responsibilities for quality service as reflected in internal or external patient satisfaction survey results
  • Assist the Nutrition Manager in orientating, ongoing education activities for the staff to ensure competencies are met
  • Follow production records for each meal period.
  • Record production numbers, including leftovers
  • Record all hot food temperatures.
  • Monitor & react to demands for menu items as required for meal service.
  • Communicate with manager / applicable leadership regarding and maintenance needs.
  • Assist the Nutrition Manager in directing the activities of the staff to ensure patient flow and cafeteria needs are met
  • Prepare attractive, quality tasting meals for patients and Cafeteria
  • Serving patient trays and cafeteria customers
  • Preparing modified food items according to the patient’s diet
  • Determine food amounts to make according to census and special functions
  • Operate standard kitchen equipment
  • Meet sanitation and safety requirements for food and equipment
  • Ability to prepare food for all age groups when identified
  • Prepares, displays foods for catered events
  • Clean, organize all work and storage areas, especially coolers
  • Adheres to HACCP guidelines to ensure efficient, safe, and sanitary food handling
  • Complete applicable logs and checklists

Education

  • Post high school education degree in related field (technical/vocational school minimum)

Qualification/Skills

  • 3+ years related cooking experience
  • Previous lead or supervisory experience strongly preferred
  • Trained in all production positions & passed each competency phase
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Ability to direct, lead, motivate a staff
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Good computer skills
  • Must be able to cross-train into other positions as needed
  • Complete simple mathematical computations
  • Must communicate in a positive manner
  • Ability to exercise good judgment as in preparation of food, sanitation, and safety standards
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with all hospital employees
  • Patient Centered Care attitude

Work Schedule

  • Afternoon/Day Shift weekends as needed.
  • 20 hours per week
  • Benefit eligible position
