Allina Health Laboratory provides a full menu of essential and specialized laboratory services to customers in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. We provide reference laboratory services to four major metropolitan hospitals, 13 regional hospitals, including Abbott Northwestern – WestHealth (Plymouth), 59+ Allina Health clinics, 40+ hospital-based clinics and outpatient surgery centers. As a local, accessible resource, we provide clinical and anatomic pathology services that support customers diagnostic needs.

  • Perform technical and diagnostic laboratory procedures that provide prompt and accurate test results for providers use in the diagnosis and treatment of patients in a clinic setting
  • Collect and obtain satisfactory specimen samples
  • Correct processing of specimens in a timely manner
  • Perform tests authorized by the clinic lab director
  • Prepare and maintain supplies to efficiently collect specimens
  • Maintain lab equipment per established protocol
  • Perform, evaluate and document all quality control on each test system
  • Participate in the laboratory Quality Assurance Plan
  • Orient and train new employees and students as assigned
  • Maintain high level of customer service through communication vehicles
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited MLT or MLS/MT program

Qualification/Skills

Skills

  • Ability to:
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of laboratory procedure and instrumentation
  • Follow federal regulations for quality control, quality assurance, competency, and proficiency testing
  • Adhere to CLIA 88 and OSHA requirements and additional requirements for compliance that apply to the department in which assigned
  • Communicate effectively with patients, providers and staff
  • Adherence to Allina Health confidentiality policy and laboratory policies
  • Work effectively in an independently and in a team setting
  • Work in a highly detail-oriented environment
  • Demonstrate good customer services skills
  • Assess accuracy of testing in regard to patient test results, quality control and troubleshooting
  • Display strong interpersonal skills to handle unusual or stressful situations
  • Distinguish between colors
  • Demonstrate computer skills to navigate within an EMS and laboratory information system

Licensure/Certification

  • MLT or MLS/MT certified by ASCP or equivalent
  • New graduates must pass the ASCP board within 6 months of employment
  • BLS within 6 months of hire
  • May be a CLA with 5+ years of experience
  • Note: Must maintain current certification; those certified in 2004 or after are required to complete the certification maintenance program

Work Schedule

There are currently three open MLT float positions. Float pay differential is included. Extreme scheduling flexibility is required. There is no routine schedule and site assignment and shift times may change at any time. Schedule may include occasional evening and weekend shifts when needed. Occasional holiday work may be included. Start times typically vary between 6:30 and 9:30 am. Shifts are routinely scheduled at the following clinics: Bandana Square, Bloomington, East Lake Street, Highland Park, Hopkins, Inver Grove Heights, Maplewood and Vadnais Heights. This position will be required to float to other Allina Health clinic laboratories as needed.
