Allina Health Emergency Medical Services is a leader and innovator in pre-hospital emergency medical services and is devoted to providing skilled and compassionate advanced life support, basic life support and scheduled transport in more than 100 Minnesota communities. Nearly 600 paramedics, emergency medical technicians and dispatchers work together to provide service to an area of approximately 1,000 square miles, reaching more than 1 million people annually.

Position Purpose
The President of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will have full responsibility for leading business unit operations in achieving clinical, financial and quality of care objectives.
The President will be expected to formulate and implement strategic and tactical plans to achieve operating results and grow market share; promote a positive image and enhance community relations; and direct patient care delivery at EMS.

Principal Duties

EMS LeadershipLeading and positioning EMS as a leader in innovative, clinical services that are regionally and nationally competitive for innovation and of excellence for the services offered.
Strategic DevelopmentLeading EMS strategic development working in partnership with other Allina Health leaders, physicians, employees and Allina team members to fully develop the vision and strategies for the achievement of the business unit, department and Allina’s objectives.
Operational Leadership/AccountabilityLeading in the effective execution of EMS with respect, trust, discipline and accountability for achievement of operating, financial and other metrics to effectively achieve the operating targets for EMS. Setting the tone and culture for quality of service throughout the organization; ensuring the customer and market needs are the guiding force in patient care delivery; that operations continuously improve; and the organization promotes and recognizes employee contribution and teamwork.
Professional and Relationship ManagementDeveloping as an engaged and enthusiastic leader strong and effective working relationships with employees, unions, providers and community leaders.
Community Engagement/LeadershipLeading as an effective spokesperson for Allina Health Emergency Medical Services with community.
Leadership DevelopmentDeveloping an effective leadership team

Education

Education or Degree
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Masters preferred.
Certification
  • Current certification as an EMT-Paramedic or other related clinical experience.

Qualification/Skills

  • Minimum of ten years’ experience in progressive leadership roles.
  • Experience working with unions is highly desirable.
  • The successful candidate will be an energized, enthusiastic, passionate and engaged leader with strong intellect and creativity.
  • He/she will be a skilled listener and communicator at multiple levels, both orally and written with individuals and groups.
  • He/she will be a dynamic and empowering leader who will possess a positive attitude that will instill a vision across an organization while developing strategic plans and focus, and effective implementation of those plans.
  • He/she will be a skilled relationship developer and partner and will have decision making capability which allows for openness, resolution, ethical decision making, while having the highest personal integrity standards which can create, build and foster trust across multiple entities.
  • The successful candidate will be passionate about patient care and recognized as a positive change agent who can work effectively in creating direction and influence through ambiguity to effective results.
  • Fellow in the American College of Paramedic Executives a plus.
