St. Francis Regional Medical Center, located in Shakopee, Minn., provides an array of patient care services, including The Family Birth Place, Breast Center, Cancer Center, pediatric care, rehabilitation and sports medicine, as well as a range of health education and support groups. With 798 employees, 459 physicians and 86 staffed beds, St. Francis provides a full range of inpatient, outpatient and emergency services to more than 115,000 patients each year on a collaborative medical campus with more than 30 other providers. Responsibilities

  • Clean and decontaminate instrumentation in a safe, consistent and efficient manner
  • Inspects and assembles instrumentation and trays
  • Maintains all sterilization testing results logs
  • Reports all negative results of testing to charge nurse and department manager
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment
  • Delivers sterile/processed items to the appropriate department
  • Maintains sterile back-up of surgical instruments and products
  • Demonstrates competence in use of washer, sonic cleaner, autoclaves (OR/SPD)/sterilizers and cart wash
  • Completes instrument trays and peel packs correctly in a timely manner
  • Completes annual reviews as required by Patient Care Department and specific patient care nursing unit
  • Participates in unit/hospital/community and professional/educational activities
  • Attends unit and department staff meetings
  • Follows patient care/hospital policies and procedures
  • Attends in-service programs appropriate to the Sterile Processing Technician role
  • Contributes to cost containment through efficient use of time and resources
  • Demonstrates accountability for/promotes own professional growth and development
  • Demonstrate knowledge and use of proper body mechanics
  • Adheres to work agreement and established attendance standards
  • Maintains CRCST or IAHCSMM/CRCST certification
  • Independently accomplishing job duties
  • Assisting co-workers as a team member to accomplish job duties
  • Adhering to all regulation and departmental policies and procedures
  • Communicating with co-workers and charge nurse/department manager to contribute to harmonious work environment

Education

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Completion of sterile processing program or equivalent work experience

Qualification/Skills

  • Interpersonal skills of communication
  • Problem solving
  • Proper body mechanics
  • Sterilization methods and monitoring (familiarity with principles of aseptic technique, medical terminology, anatomy, surgical procedures, and decontamination procedures)

Work Schedule

  • 32 hours a week
  • Day/Evening shifts
  • The position may rotate into 5 different weekday shift times, Monday-Friday
  • Shift Rotations: 6:30a-3:00p, 9a- 5:30p, 11a-7:30p, 1p-9:30p, 2:30p-11p; Rotating Saturday Shift 8a-4:30p; Off premise call on Sunday from 8a-4:30p.
  • Weekend rotations occur approximately once every 5-6 weeks.
